When the weather heats up, I’d normally recommend a minimalist, no-makeup, makeup look. But, when a special occasion comes along and you want a full beat that will last all day long, here are my 5 Florida-summer-weather-tested tips for wearing makeup in hot weather.
Before we get started, please note that applying makeup that is sure to last, takes time and cannot be done in a rush. So take a seat at your vanity, grab a glass of ice water to stay cool and buckle in for this ride.
Tip #1: Prime the skin
You always want to start your makeup application on skin that has been freshly cleansed, moisturized and sunscreen applied (if the sun is still out). Then to further prepare the skin and add an extra layer of hydration, mist your face with a light layer of MAC Prep & Prime Fix+ Primer Spray
The next primer you want to apply will help to smooth out the texture and boost the lasting power of your foundation and concealer. For this you want to apply a long time favorite of mine from Smashbox, the Photo Finish Primer. Make sure that you concentrate the primer in areas that get the most oily.
Tip #2: Primer before eyeshadow
For everyday makeup application, priming the eyelids with concealer would suffice. But for sweat proof hot weather makeup, you will need a primer made specifically to grip your eyeshadow as well as make the colors pop. I recommend Juvia’s Place I Prep, I Prime Eyeshadow Primer. They come in a few different shades, I have shade 2.
PRO TIP: Press your eyeshadow into your eyelid, instead of swiping or brushing it on. This helps the color to adhere better and gives it extra impact.
Tip #3: Set creams with powder
Anytime you use a cream or liquid product like eyeliner, foundation, blush or even contour, set in place with a powder on top.
For example, if you are lining your eyes with a kohl eyeliner, go over top it with an eyeshadow in a similar shade to set it in place. Just as you set foundation with a setting powder, the same principle works for any cream product that you want to last in the hot weather.
Tip #4: Set under eye concealer with setting powder and setting spray
Set your under eye concealer by first spraying the beauty sponge with setting spray, dabbing a small amount of setting powder on the sponge and then pressing it into the skin to lock it in place and minimize creasing.
Tip #5: Set face with setting powder and setting spray
The very last step to take before heading out the door is to apply setting powder all over top your makeup. I use Mineralize Skinfinish by MAC then spray all over that with a setting spray for the final seal. Milani Make It Last 16 hour Setting Spray is a great choice.
BONUS PRO TIP: If you are a sweater, like I am, then there’s nothing you can do to prevent it. If you use the tips I outlined, your sweat will fall and glide right over your makeup. Just let the sweat fall and eventually evaporate and resist the urge to wipe it off. But if you must remove the sweat, use a tissue and gently dab the wetness being careful not to disturb or smear your makeup.
And there you have it, 5 tips for sweatproof and hot weather proof makeup. Now you can get out there and enjoy the hot weather beautifully.
With Love & Confidence,
